WHO ARE WE?
Our Mission
Hello, we are ‘Levelling the Field”, a Global Perspectives Project from Islamabad, Pakistan committed to advocacy for inclusive sports. We decided upon the issue of ableism in sports as it is not only important, but often overlooked as it affects a small, yet equally important part of our population.
However, we made it our aim to take part in small actions to make a big impact. We believe that if every individual makes an effort to provide inclusivity, this issue can be solved before it has time to properly arise.
WHAT IS ABLEISM in sports?
Ableism in sports is the discrimination, prejudice, or unequal treatment of athletes based on disability—whether physical, sensory, intellectual, or mental, many often consider the abled bodies as superior.
WHY DO INCLUSIVE SPORTS MATTER?
Inclusive sports help differently-abled children feel accepted, valued, and confident. Participation in sports improves physical health, mental wellbeing, and social skills. When sports are inclusive, they also teach non-disabled students important values such as empathy, respect, and cooperation.
